Dodgers News: Kiké Hernández Reveals More Information About Injury Issues From Last Season

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Kiké Hernández opened up about some of the injuries he’s had to deal with over the past couple of seasons after recently returning to the Dodgers on a one-year deal.

Hernández, who first played for the Dodgers from 2015-2020, was traded back to the Dodgers in the middle of the 2023 season amidst dealing with pain to his groin, quads and hips. Though Hernández managed to stay on the field for the year, he could not sort out what was causing all the pain until late in the season.

“I kept getting MRIs, and people were saying I was fine, so I was like, ‘All right, you just need to accept it, embrace it and play through pain and hope for the best.’ Obviously, my performance suffered, but at least I was able to stay on the field all year long and not go on the [injured list].”

Finally, a diagnosis revealed that Hernández had suffered two sports hernias, which the MRIs had not shown. Hernández would undergo surgery after the season to get them fixed and finally resolve the issues that had held back his play over the last couple of seasons.

Now feeling back to normal, Hernández has a much better shot at returning to the level of play when he was a two-time fielding bible award winner from 2020-2021. As one of the more versatile players on defense, having his strength back will be key for the 2024 season.
