Joshua’s Post-Fight Focus: Hrgovic, Not Fury

Anthony Joshua, $50 million richer, wasn’t interested in talking about Tyson Fury after his easy-as-pie victory over Francis Ngannou last Friday night in Riyadh. AJ added a nice chunk of change to his growing bank account, and he’ll get plenty more when/if he eventually faces Fury.

The fighter Joshua (28-3, 25 KOs) ready to fight next is Filip Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KOs) for the soon-to-be vacant IBF heavyweight title. Once AJ has that belt, he can focus on fighting whoever emerges as the winner of the Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk unification contest.

Tyson Fury’s Hasty Retreat

Fury had been ringside to witness AJ’s demolition job over Ngannou, and as soon as the respectable ended, he made a b-line for the exit with a gloomy look on his face. Tyson looked like he’d just seen a ghost and definitely wasn’t happy about what he’d just witnessed.

Some believe Fury was disappointed with the ease of Joshua’s victory against a fighter that had given pure trouble last October, beating him in the eyes of the world.

Joshua’s victory over Ngannou and Otto Wallin in back-to-back knockouts makes it difficult for Fury to argue that he is the world’s #1 heavyweight.

Always quick-witted, Joshua jokingly remarked after the fight that he should be the WBC heavyweight champion after beating the guy some feel should have defeated Fury.

Joshua’s Work Ethic

“I feel like when I’m doing it, I might as well do it properly. The game is tough enough as it is. If you don’t put the work in, nights like that will be more difficult,” Anthony Joshua said to the iFL TV YouTube channel about his not taking long layoffs between fights. I want to make them nights as easy as possible.

“I don’t want to say nothing about Tyson,” Joshua said when told that Tyson Fury walked out immediately after watching his second-round knockout of Francis Ngannou.

It’s best that Joshua not speak about Fury since it’s unknown whether he’ll get past Usyk on May 18th. That’s a fighter, ‘The Gypsy King’. Fury had shown a lack of interest in fighting since he moved up to the heavyweight division several years ago.

“Yeah, I’ll fight Hrgovic [next]. Let’s go,” Joshua said when asked if he was interested in fighting Hrgovic next.
