Chelsea star is now second on important stat ranking and has booked his Euros spot

Two goals for Cole Palmer last night brough him to 20 goal contributions in all competitions this season – more than any other English player with the exception of Ollie Watkins, who is of course a striker.

These numbers are taking him beyond just being Chelsea’s player of the season, they’re putting him in contention for far bigger awards. He’s looking like signing of the season, possibly young player of the season, and could yet do even better depending on how the second half of the season goes.

As this English-based stat shows, he’s making it impossible for Gareth Southgate to ignore him for the England squad for the Euros next summer, at the very least. On form he should be starting for the Three Lions, and the only thing likely to hold him back is a lack of friendlies between now and the tournament to get him settled in, with Southgate a notoriously slow and steady coach when it comes to bringing new players into the mix.
