Warhammer Old World Starter Boxes Revealed

Warhammer Old World Starter Boxes Revealed

The Warhammer Old World Starter Boxes have been Revealed alongside the initial release plan for products.

So, it’s finally time for Warhammer Old World to release, and we’ve now had our confirmation of the release boxes after the leak last week. We’ll highlight it briefly below to keep it as easy to follow as possible.

Warhammer Old World Starter Boxes

Bretonnia army box tomb kings box

So, the rumours were true and we’ll be getting two starter boxes for the Bretonnia and Tomb Kings respectively. So, what are we looking at:

Each box contains a 1,250 point army
Not all models in the kit are plastic “dozens” of all-plastic miniatures
A complete hardback Warhammer Old World rulebook
A reference sheet
20 D6 dice
One scatter dice
Three weapon templates
Two measuring sticks
Transfer sheets

The big question here is what models are plastic. We know from the Bretonnia reveal that the Knights of the Realm (horse units on the right and left), Men-at-arms (melee units at the front), the Peasant bowmen (the one’s with the bows…) and the Pegasus Knights are all returning kits. Sadly, the box does not include the new Knights of the Realm on Foot.

As for Tomb Kings, we don’t have as many details, but we know the Necrolith Bone Dragon will be a new plastic kit.

Warhammer Old World Rules, Forces Books, and Arcane Journals

Arcane Journals

This is the “non-essential” extra book for each faction. These are “softbooks” and will expand the history, maps, special characters, magic items, spells, scenarios and much more. But, as pointed out by GW these are not required.

Arcane Journals

Forces of Fantasy and Ravening Hordes

These will act as the key books for faction-specific rules. These are split into the two boxes below, covering the Forces of Fantasy and Ravening Hordes.

Forces Books

Forces of Fantasy:

Covers Dwarfen Mountain Holds, the Empire of Man, the Kingdom of Bretonnia, the Wood Elf Realms, and the High Elf Realms
192-pages
Each army gets an introduction, a gallery of miniatures, a grand army composition list, a complete set of unit profiles (so you’ll have no need for a separate army book to play), special rules, magic items, and unique spells

Ravening Hordes:

Covering Orc and Goblin Tribes, the Warriors of Chaos, the Beastmen Brayherds, and the Tomb Kings of Khemri
160-pages
Each army gets an introduction, a gallery of miniatures, a grand army composition list, a complete set of unit profiles (so you’ll have no need for a separate army book to play), special rules, magic items, and unique spells

This book still requires the Core Rulebook (below) to use.

Core rules

The big meaty book that sets everyone up for play. The book is included in each of the Bretonnia and Tomb King “starter boxes” above but will be available separately:

352-page book
70 pages of background on the World of Legend (the name given the Old World setting)
Core and advanced rules for gameplay, alongside an explanation of Winds of Magic, and casting spells
Gallery of armies painted by the “Eavy Metal studio”
Rules for building an army and setting up a battlefield
