Brendon McCullum Praises Rohit Sharma's Bold Captaincy and Virat Kohli's Superstardom

Former New Zealand captain and current head coach of England’s Test team, Brendon McCullum, showered accolades on Indian cricket stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, emphasizing Rohit’s bold captaincy and Virat’s consistent superlative performances.

McCullum commended Rohit Sharma‘s captaincy style, lauding his daring approach and willingness to take risks. In an interview with ANI, McCullum expressed his admiration for Rohit’s leadership qualities, especially in the recent ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where Rohit led the Men in Blue to the final.

“Yeah. I like his captaincy (Rohit Sharma’s captaincy). I think his captaincy is bold. He takes risks and he takes the game on. And when you add the talent base of India to these kinds of tactics, then he can achieve very good things. He has been a great leader for not just India but for Mumbai Indians over the years as well,” McCullum stated.

Rohit’s captaincy has been instrumental in guiding India through challenging situations, and his strategic approach has been pivotal in harnessing the team’s abundant talent.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s recent feat of breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most ODI centuries and becoming the first cricketer to score over 700 runs in a single edition of a Cricket World Cup didn’t go unnoticed by McCullum. He remarked that Virat was always considered a future superstar, and he has surpassed expectations by delivering consistently on the big stage.

“Well, obviously Virat, I know him pretty well from my time at RCB and also playing against him. So, look, he was always touted as a future superstar and he has lived up to, he has dealt with the hopes and the dreams of over a billion people and he has been able to perform on the big stage. He deserves every accolade that he gets,” McCullum praised.

Both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will be absent from the upcoming T20I and ODI series in South Africa, setting their focus on the two-match Test series in the Rainbow Nation.

The cricketing world awaits more stellar performances from these two icons, recognizing their indelible contributions to the sport.
